12/27/23 UPDATE and Additional Information:
Two planning meetings will take place prior to the campout, please plan to attend both if at all possible:
Sunday, January 7th at 2:00pm in portable 4A at Grace Presbyterian Church: During this meeting we will discuss: meal planning, gear needed, badge requirements, and stamina preparation.
Sunday, February 25th at 3:00pm (Garey Park): Bring your backpacking gear with you to this meeting, as we will be checking our gear to make sure everyone has what they need in order to be successful at the campout.
Details:
~ Will be hiking and sleeping in a loop at LMSP, not hiking in and hiking out along a straight line, which means we will have new terrain and views the entire trip!
~ The longest distance to be hiked in one day is 3.5 miles.
~ There is an elevation change along one portion of the trail.
~ There will not be restrooms throughout much of the campout. There are composting toilets at some locations.
~ A list of needed supplies will be available soon; check back.
Costs:
~ Forest Trails Service Unit is paying for camp sites. Woohoo
~ LMSP charges a day use fee of $7 per adult (13+) per day. If you have a state park pass, entry is free. (FTSU might pay the day use fee. TBD)
~ Additional costs per girl/adult will include food and supplies to be carried and used by each individual.
Preparation Suggestions:
~ Practice hiking long distance (multiple miles) carrying your gear or a heavy pack.
~ Learn how to, and practice, properly packing your gear into your pack
~ GSCTX has supplies available for rent. Do not complete a rental request at this time individually, as we receive a greater price point if we rent as a group. Be prepared to discuss which supplies you already have and which one you may which to rent from GSCTX at the January 7th planning meeting.
